serge baghdassarians (*1972, fürth) & boris baltschun (*1974, bremen)

are two berlin-based soundartists working together since 1999.
they have been working in a variety of fields within experimental sound practices: composed and improvised music as well as soundinstallations. expansion into the areas of music-theatre and radiophonic work is planned.
when they perform live they use electro(acoustic)nic instruments, analog and digital.

since 2005 they are working on the development of a new instrument, a system of interdependent analog and digital electronic devices, where every move of each performer effects the sounding result directley, thus creating one meta-instrument where the division between two instruments/performers is obsolte. the individual is the collective and vice versa.

past projects include:
a series of performance concepts called 'now that this has been done it will never have to be done again' with about 30 performances and recordings made between 2001 and 2004.

recent activities are:
- the installation brownout, the first soundinstallation in the 'musica povera' series:
a large body of handbuild (and cheap) sound producing objects that resemble electronic music and sound over many hours. - the installation 10° ('konservatorische maßnahme'), number two in the 'musica povera' series:
a network of vibrating strings, driven by battery operated motors and
using tin can's as resonators. here, the system setup determines the actual pitches and resulting patterns in a very slowly but ever changing way. with the loss of energy (of the batteries) over time, the overall sound gets quieter and softer and leads to changing overtones and ultimatley to the silence of the system. - VOT, variationen ohne thema (variations without theme),
a network performance instrument used to remix and perform their latest cd (a studio work called 14:09\11:04\25:09 released on charhizma).

future activities will be:
- a radiophonic piece -brownoutII- about and around los angeles'
mexican (im)migrants / migrating music. - a deconstruction and remix of the opera figaro by w.a.mozart (using only historic recordings from the 30s to 50s as sources) combined with text by carl schmitt.
- number 3 in the 'musica povera' series: little noise 'machines' driven by natural energy.

furthermore, they have been continuously working with
dror feiler (as KOMBINAT),
with andrea neumann/annette krebs (as HELIX),
with günther christmann (as mal d'archive),
with alessandro bosetti/michel doneda (as strom)
and in a trio with burkhard beins.
